BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State women's soccer team was picked to finish second place in the Mountain East Conference North Division after the conference's coaches' poll was released on Wednesday (Aug. 20) afternoon.
The Falcons totaled 42 points in the voting with two first-place votes as the team is coming off a 12-7-1 season with a 9-5 record in conference tilts. Last year's squad made it to the semifinals of the MEC Tournament and returns four of its All-MEC selections.
Frostburg State is picked as the preseason champion in the North Division as they garnered nine first-place votes and 49 total points. West Liberty (28), Point Park (23) and Wheeling (18) rounded out north division.
In the South, Charleston totaled 56 points, finishing ahead of defending MEC tournament champion West Virginia State (49 points) and Concord (48 points). The Yellow Jackets received two first-place votes, while the Mountain Lions received three. The bottom half of the South Division are Glenville State, West Virginia Wesleyan, and Davis & Elkins.
