FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University men's tennis team faced the University of Charleston. The Falcons fell to the Golden Eagles, 5-2.
The Falcons came out sharp in doubles play, highlighted by a convincing 6-3 win at No. 1 from
Kusunoki Haruto and
Noah Liedtke over Vicente Garcia and Marcel Mifano Pinto. However, Charleston answered with wins at No. 2 (7-5) and No. 3 (6-3) to claim the doubles point.
In singles, Fairmont State found success at the top two spots. Haruto delivered a composed performance at No. 1, earning a 6-4, 6-1 straight-sets victory, while
Gabriel Masu dominated at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win to give the Falcons their two team points.
Despite those efforts, Charleston took control of the remaining matches.
Keagan Karungagaran was locked in a tight battle at No. 3 before being forced to retire late in the match.
Noah Liedtke pushed hard at No. 4, including a competitive second set, but fell in straight sets.
Mohamed El Helaly opened strong at No. 5 with a first-set win before Charleston rallied to take the match in three, and
Gustavo Masu dropped a tough contest at No. 6 that was decided by a tiebreak.
Fairmont State (12-3, 1-2)Â hits the road on Thursday, April 16 to face Bluefield State University. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
