BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University men's tennis team hit the road to face Bluefield State University. The Falcons won the match in commanding fashion, 7-0.
The Falcons battled in doubles to open the match, claiming the point with wins in two of the three positions.
Keagan Karungagaran and
Gabriel Masu earned a solid 6-4 victory at No. 2, while
Mohamed El Helaly and
Gustavo Masu delivered a commanding 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot. Despite a hard-fought effort from
Kusunoki Haruto and
Noah Liedtke at No. 1, Fairmont State secured the early advantage heading into singles.
In singles play, the Falcons took full control, winning all six matches. Haruto led the way at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win, while
Gabriel Masu battled through a pair of tight sets to claim a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 2. Karungagaran added another point with a 6-3, 6-4 decision in the No. 3 position.
Liedtke turned in a dominant performance at No. 4, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win, and El Helaly picked up a victory at No. 5 via opponent retirement.
Gustavo Masu capped off the day with a strong 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6.Â
Fairmont State (13-3) returns to conference play on Saturday, April 18 at West Liberty University. Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
