The Basics
The Fairmont State football team will begin the 2023 season tomorrow (August 31) at home with a nonconference matchup versus Bloomsburg at Duvall-Rosier Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The game will be broadcasted live on MEC TV with the voice of the Fighting Falcons Travis Jones on the call with color analyst Duane Cochran. Fans can also listen to the broadcast on SKY 106.5 FM and follow live stats of the game via fightingfalcons.com.
Bloomsburg won the lone matchup between these two teams on September 3, 2005 when the Huskies defeated the Falcons 33-0 at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Fighting Falcon Facts
• The Falcons return four 2022 All-MEC performers to their roster.
Brocton Blair received All-MEC First Team accolades for the first time in his career after racking up 116.0 total tackles. Defensive lineman
Randy Robinson made 55 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss to go along with 1.5 sacks and earned All-MEC Second Team accolades.
Jovon Jackson, a defensive back from Gainesville, Va., totaled 84 tackles and picked off one pass to collect All-MEC Second Team honors.Â
• The Fairmont State defense held opponents to 30 or fewer points six times last season. The Falcons surrendered 349.1 yards/game on the defensive side of the ball in 2022, which was the third-best average in the Mountain East Conference. Honorable Mention All-American linebacker
Brocton Blair, the team's leading tackler last season, returns for Fairmont State's defense.
• On the offensive side of the ball, 2021 MEC Offensive Freshman of the Year
Michael Floria is set to begin his junior season for the Falcons after sustaining an injury in 2022. The quarterback from Prince Frederick, Md. totaled 1,381 passing yards and 14 touchdowns his freshman campaign.

Carter Giacomo claimed All-MEC Honorable Mention recognition his junior season in Fairmont. Giacomo is from Streetsboro, Ohio.
• The Falcons return 49 players from the 2022 roster. Fairmont State added 36 true freshman to the football roster in 2023. The Falcons added 15 transfers including players from Alderson Broaddus, Campbell, Glenville State, Kent State, Robert Morris, Rochester Community & Technical College, Seton Hill, Slippery Rock, Shepherd, West Virginia and Youngstown State.
• Fairmont State Head Football Coach
Jason Woodman begins his 11th season leading Fairmont State. Woodman has totaled 52 wins in his career and is one win shy of tying Doug Sams as the second-winningest coach in school history.

Ron Rankin returns as the Defensive Coordinator. The Falcons added

Laurence Treadaway (Defensive Backs / Special Teams),
Kyle Weiss (Wide Receivers) and
Quincy Wilson (Running Backs / Recruiting Coordinator) to the coaching staff.
Scouting Bloomsburg
• Bloomsburg was picked to finish seventh in the 2023 PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Three All-PSAC East players return to BU's roster, including the Huskies' leading tackler, Quentin Gaskill. The Waynesboro, Pa., native made 92 tackles in 10 games last season. Kaleb Monaco tallied 513 rushing yards and 175 receiving yards in the backfield for Bloomsburg while Matthew Bowes hauled in 249 receiving yards for 18 catches and three touchdowns to collect All-PSAC East accolades.
• The Huskies are led by Bloomsburg alum Frank Sheptock. Sheptock was a three-time First Team Associated Press All-American linebacker and was inducted into the Bloomsburg Hall of Fame in 1997 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007.Â
