Kupets’ connection to Fairmont State baseball spans more than four decades as a player, coach, educator, administrator and mentor. A four-year baseball letterman from 1973-76, Kupets was one of the most accomplished hitters in program history. He earned All-WVIAC honors in each of his final three seasons and was named the 1976 WVIAC Player of the Year after leading the conference with a .444 batting average, 20 RBIs and 45 total bases.

Kupets returned to his alma mater as head baseball coach from 1984-86, guiding the Falcons to a 14-win season, a third-place WVIAC finish and the program’s first WVIAC Tournament appearance during his tenure. He later returned as an assistant and hitting coach from 2016-18, when seven different Fairmont State student-athletes earned All-MEC honors.
