“Butch” was a standout for Fairmont State wrestling from 1972–76, earning a reputation as one of the program’s most accomplished competitors. A three-time WVIAC Champion at 177 pounds (1974, 1975, 1976) and the 1973 conference runner-up, Collins helped lead the Falcons to three WVIAC team titles during his career (1973, 1974, 1976). He qualified for the national tournament three times and was a four-year letterman.

After his collegiate career, Collins stepped into coaching, where he briefly served as head coach at Simon Kenton High School (Ky.). In that role, he guided the program to a third-place finish at the state tournament and was honored as Coach of the Year by the Kentucky Post for the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference.
