Hall of Fame
Ed built a legacy of excellence during his tenure as head coach of the Fairmont State men’s and women’s swimming programs from 1992–2001. A four-time WVIAC Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year (1994, 1996, 1999, 2001) and 1996 Penn-Ohio Conference Coach of the Year, Denny established Fairmont State as a respected force in the pool both regionally and nationally.
Under his leadership, 17 Falcon swimmers combined to earn 59 NAIA All-American honors, including one individual national champion. His impact extended beyond the NAIA, as nine of his athletes achieved 29 NCAA All-American honors. Denny’s coaching excellence was further highlighted by mentoring a swimmer who later qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in both 2012 and 2016, a testament to his ability to develop talent to the highest levels of competition.
